Alright! Introduce yourself here. Name your favorite anime, style and your personal arsenal... etc.
Tell us a little about how and when you started drawing and what shows/books/things first inspired you to draw.
Give us some pictures of the tools you use to draw.
(but don't give away your specific home address, phone number.. unless you want stalkers to come to your house and kill your dog. :p)

Introduce Yourself Here Empty Re: Introduce Yourself Here

Post by mendics 4/14/2008, 1:39 pm

yo guess i'm the first to introduce myself...
i'm mendics as my username says.
first of all a friend of mine made me join this forum and just went along because i myself wanted to be in an art forum.. basically my love for art is like a hobby i cant give up thats it..
*edit - man everybody's intro are well put up i guess o should make more effort -_-*

I'm from quezon city- as a lot of other people are. and probably very into art as other people here as well. I first started drawing when i was in prep(very early right) but didnt take it real seriously, it was just a hobby i do to impress others or just pass time. At first copying seems to be the only ability i seem to have when i was drawing dragonball z, gundam wing etc. I stoped for a while and then got serious and really into drawing when great artists emerged, They made me competitive again and sooner made me draw again- this time seriously.. anyways from then on i continued to excel in my art and always learned to improve not to be satisfied by just one point. I draw mostly at school when bored, and at summer every now and then when i feel the urge to do so..

My art taste is quite different than others i find the style "triangular nose, square eyes and v cheeks" quite repetitive but still dig some who really are good at it.. I like artists who are both modest and respective for others works. I usually look at inspiring artist at deviantart(which is why im there) or other artists that i want to be.. lastly dont call me mendick or medic i usually get that..

Introduce Yourself Here Empty It seems that I have not introduced myself yet...

Post by EiennoYume 4/15/2008, 7:38 am

Aside from Mod Pharan, who informed me of the existence of the Pishbol Cart, people here not yet familiar to me. And so I go into the formal introductions. I hope I am welcome to write long here.

In the Internet, I go by the name of EiennoYume, a japanese term which means "Eternal Dreams". My motto in relation to drawing is "Follow your Dream; create you Destiny".

My favorite anime would be Death Note, Monster, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Well, I can't say which one I like best, as they're all in different genres.

As for the style, I am similar to, I think, everyone else in here: Manga. I adopt highlight and shading techniques as well as many others in drawing.

As a little boy, I am always fascinated in the way anime are drawn, to the point of which I am inspired to do one myself. Other significant inspirations would be Hayao Miyazaki's Masterful Works like Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away. My ultimate goal in drawing Manga is that I want to create a Manga of my own, in which I will entitle as "Eternal Dreams". In pursuance to such goal, I bought a series of the popular books in drawing: the How-To-Draw-Manga. Despite almost completing a series, I haven't taken my fullest attention to them due to the conflicts in the real life. In particular such conflict would be my scholarship title which prevents me from ever slacking off in studying. Yet, I still want to pursue my goal in Manga, or else it would only become a distant dream.

That concludes my introduction. I wish I would be in good terms to everyone here in the forum.

Introduce Yourself Here Empty Re: Introduce Yourself Here

Post by Pharan 4/15/2008, 10:22 pm

Hey! Don't call me Mod Pharan! Mod isn't some kind of title!

Anyway, just call me Pharan here. I'm from Cebu (that island in the middle of our country that kinda looks like Japan if you squint your eyes enough, although it actually looks more like this creature.)
If, by any chance, we meet in person, don't call me Pharan.

I've been drawing since I could remember. With some shame (I beg pardon from the fans) the first anime influence I got was Dragonball Z. But in my defense, that was long before I knew what "anime" was and long before I was of discerning age (8 years old, FYI). My first few serious anime influences were Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X and the Megaman series which I first played and watched when I was around 12 years old. My high school years were dotted with other influences such as the styles of Kosuke Fujishima (author of Ah! Megami-Sama and Taiho Shichauzo) and various Japanese artists from my journeys through tinami.com

I normally don't go for the most popular anime like Naruto, Pokemon, Death Note, Bleach, and the like. But I did enjoy watching Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Gurren Lagann, Samurai Champloo, Witch Hunter Robin and the eye-popping feature-length anime Byosoku 5cm and The Girl who Leapt Through Time.

Nowadays, the number of drawings I churn out don't amount to much. Probably one a week, and not even all of them seriously CGed. But I do enjoy playing around with a lot of other hobbies like playing the piano, graphic design stuff (ie typography), photography and, while I'm in the drawing mood, experimenting on different styles. I'm always amazed by artists' flexibility of style and that's a skill I aim to develop for myself.

I almost exclusively use pencils for all my art. I hate drawing with pens. Since college, I've been "inking" my drawings digitally with the help of a Wacom tablet and Corel Painter or Adobe Photoshop.

As far as I know though, I don't really dream of a career in making comics or anything. My love for drawing has forever held a status of "serious hobby".

PS
I'm just going to go ahead and apologize right here. I tend to write really long posts and use a lot of parentheses. I do, however, try to be focused and substantial (and not too nerdy).

Strafe Breaker aka the Silly Rabbit here, probably the oldest here, during my college days when I was taking up Business Administration, I was influenced by Dragonball Z, Sailormoon, Yuyu Hakusho, Slam Dunk, Magic Knight Rayearth, Spirited Away. Gundam Wing, Doraemon, Harui Suzumiya, etc. etc,

My style varies but all of them are under the anime/manga type, Range Murata, Oh Great!, CLAMP, Ken Akamatsu, Mr Elmer Damaso and James Palabay, and the rest of the former Culture Crash team were my Heroes when it comes to Philippine manga styled comics are some of my favorite artists. As of now I'm quite interested in CG coloring though haven't really gotten the most important part of learning how to CG..."Starting".

Anyway I would really like to start my own comics someday but presently things aren't really going well with my dreams but I will hang on for as long as I can. Very Happy

Introduce Yourself Here Empty Re: Introduce Yourself Here

Post by reiche 4/24/2008, 9:20 pm

My real nickname's Reiche (although I'm called "Nitz" in Pharan's world. Long story...), but I'm more known online as ehcie-utada. I'm a 21-year-old fresh graduate from Manila trying her luck in the real world. Although I would probably end up in a sucky job unrelated to my passion, I will try my best to attain my goal - to create an animé of my own.

I wasn't that interested in drawing when I was young. I'd rather read science books and encyclopedias, which showed how much of a geek I was. That was until Sailormoon came.

I got exposed to drawing when I was in grade 3. A draw-your-favorite-sailormoon-character craze swept my school that time and, not wanting to be left behind, I joined the bandwagon. Despite my zero-comprehension of the show, I tried my luck and drew Chibimoon. My classmates liked my drawing (although I think they prefer my mermaid drawings more). Of course, that inflated my confidence triple-fold so I continued drawing.

Unfortunately, I stopped drawing when I was in grade 4 simply because my classmate drew better pictures than me. I resumed my drawing again when I was in grade 7; YuYu Hakusho was the "in" show that time and when I watched it on local TV, I was instantly hooked. My newfound obsession for YYH led me to do things related to the show (write a fanfiction and, of course, draw). My love for drawing grew and until now, I still can't get enough of it.

There are quite a handful of animé and manga artists who influenced my drawing style. From Yoshihiro Togashi (YYH) to Nobuhiro Watsuki (Rurouni Kenshin) to CLAMP (X, Magic Knight Rayearth, Card Captor Sakura), the creators of almost all the animé shows I watched and liked left an imprint in my drawings. As I looked at my hidden stash of old (and cabinet-smelling) sketches once, I realized that I could actually make a timetable of the animé shows I watched just by looking at them.

Today though, I don't draw fanart as much. Instead, I draw random characters. I'm currently experimenting (and struggling) on combining realism with animé art. It's still a work in progress.

As for my favorite animé show, there's just too many to mention. I would probably eat up more space than all the posts in here combined.

Nick (a.k.a. Neil Jahmmon {not real name}, Nick D, Nikko, Nicko, w/e) here, 15 y.o., Dabawenyo, living in Singapore here.

Living my dreams - to create a visual novel (i just released my trailer on my deviantart), to make a manga that will be popular in Singapore (just got the permission from my legal guardian a.k.a the government to make one)

I started drawing when I was 4 (I drew Power Rangers on my house's wall hehehe) and broke my arm when I was 10 (sadly). This pushed me to draw despite my broken RIGHT arm (I'm right handed), and I was able to draw quite fine with the heavy cast. Two months later the cast was removed, and I drew faster than before. :3

Drawing style inspired by Takashi Takeuchi (Fate/stay night and Tsukihime illustrator), Genji Asai (Touhou Curiosities of Lotus Asia story "books"), Hiromu Arakawa and Kamakura Yuichi (Jing-King of Bandits).

I draw mostly Touhou and Type-MOON fanart, and some of my own art as well (e.g. my Mark of a Sinner CG sets)

Tools: Graphire4 9x6 (borrowed from school), Paper, B to 6B pencils, overworked automail previously broken right hand (just kidding :3)
